Guantanamo ruling wont affect hicks lawyer says
In the aftermath of Trump's Muslim ban, many conservatives have reacted with fury. The former Republican congressman Louie Gohmert slammed the Supreme Court's order calling it "abominable."
"Today the Supreme Court took a tremendous step forward in restoring national sovereignty by striking down President Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban," he tweeted.

Even as the Trump administration appealed Trump's travel ban, lawyers for people detained at the U.S. naval facility at Guantanamo Bay on Tuesday filed a legal motion saying their clients will be free of the order "upon a reasonable showing of substantial and irreparable harm to them."
"We expect that the government will be unable to justify the broadness of the exclusion because there is no clear standard for assessing how a person's liberty is being harmed," the attorneys wrote. "We expect that this court will be able to resolve the issue as to whether it does or does not harm the fundamental rights of the detainees under the 4th Amendment."
One of the most notable civil rights cases to emerge from the litigation over Trump's actions is the 2009 case McCreary v. ACLU, which was decided to strike down the prison for black inmates.
The Supreme Court was poised Tuesday to rule on whether Trump has the authority to reinstate a ban that took effect nearly two years ago. However, there's a possibility that Trump's executive order could be overturned on procedural grounds ¡± and that it could not be renewed without congressional approval.
On Twitter, Gohmert suggested the Supreme Court may not consider the issue because Trump has promised to do what he promised during the 2016 campaign.
"Trump will be sworn into office as the 45th president on Jan. 20," Gohmert tweeted Tuesday. "If Obama's immigration executive order is not rescinded by then, the GOP will nominate another Muslim as president."
However, the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas said that the justices may reconsider the order because it did not include language on a presidential appointment process.

Nauru hunger strike over ill-treatment
7.07 pm: Opposition parties on Tuesday demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi be barred from entering Nauru following the recent hunger strike of about 30 activists.
BJP President Sonia Gandhi is facing criticism after a series of hunger strikes of women from the Nauru immigration detention centre.
The protest by the women, some of whom have been living for about three years at an indefinite detention centre on Nauru, began on February 13 following a raid by the immigration department on a house at the centre.
The protest has become a rallying cry for women facing indefinite detention, including those who were brought to Nauru by family members of a suspected Australian terrorist, Nauru Immigration Minister David Chen.
On Wednesday morning, women in Nauru continued the protest as they joined representatives of the National Conference of Democratic Women.
It is understood that Nauru Immigration Minister David Chen ordered the blockade and eviction of all protesters at the Nauru compound.
